One of our final stops in Sicily was a farmhouse at the foot of Mount Etna. We stayed in the Giarre area, a town on the outskirts of Catania, once famed for its wine producing hills.
Our home for the night was a gorgeous farmhouse…
…with lots of space for us to wander around and explore…
…cute rooms…
…pets…
…great views…
…and the perfect atmosphere to sit and relax with some wine.
We finished up the evening with a delicious home-cooked feast!
Prosciutto
Veggies
Bruschetta
Mushroom soup (“Zuppa di Funghi Siciliana”)
Pasta alla Norma
Sausages
Fruit
Followed by a digestif ‘canarino’ (lemon, bay leaf and hot water) – their version of a peppermint tea!
The following morning, the farm cooks fueled us up for our Mount Etna hike:
Cappuccino
with a random mix of cake, bread, fish, tomatoes, custard and fruit for breakfast!
And off we went to climb the volcano! Read about it here...
