Learning to Dance... ceilidh style!

So I was invited to a ceilidh birthday party and my first question was “what on earth is a ceilidh?!” After googling, I found out that its a “traditional Gaelic social gathering, which usually involves playing Gaelic folk music and dancing.”

We were required to wear some tartan to attend so I got out a scarf I acquired on a recent trip to Edinburgh and decided to fashion it into a beauty pagent style sash!

One of my friends even managed to find tartan nail art!

After champagne and nibbles we settled down to our (non-Scottish!) dinner at Battersea Mess & Music Hall.

Then we tried some dancing which was great fun - though definitely not one of my strength!  There was a guy who ran through the moves with us before the band played and we skipped and twirled around the hall...in my case, frequently in the wrong direction, but it was a good giggle trying!

Then it was time for cake...and not just one – there were EIGHT cakes (four for each of the twin birthday girls!) including chocolate, fruit and ginger!

After another dancing session, I headed home – admiring London from the river.
