At the end of
our 15 hour bus journey we arrived at our destination...essentially a trucker spot
in the middle of nowhere in Argentina!
Shortly we got
collected and taken to our Estancia (farm) home over the border into Uruguay. We drove through miles of endless countryside
(& cows!)
On arrival at
our ranch, it felt like a little oasis – it had a traditional furnishings, a
pool and BBQ plus cows, chickens and horses roaming around.
We had homemade
pork and beef sausages in the shade of some streets before relaxing on the
porch.
Then we went on
a lazy horse ride, where our gaucho made us perform various exercises on
the back of the horses, much to our amusement!
After donning
checked shirts and cowboy hats, we drank Argentinean red wine while watching
the sunset over the fields.
Dinner was a
homemade vegetable risotto in individual terracotta pots accompanied by
baguette with chimichurri – pesto like flavoured sauce from Argentina, made
from parsley, garlic, olive oil, oregano and vinegar.
For dessert we
had ‘flan’ which turned out to essentially be crème caramel.
Then we spent
the evening playing cards, pool and chatting.
