As a major
foodie, I love getting recommendations to new / different places to eat at – I usually
love them! A perfect example of this is
my recent trip to ‘Duck & Waffle’ in London, near Liverpool St station.
It’s on the 40th
floor of Heron Tower so has fantastic views over the city (apparently it’s actually the
highest restaurant in the UK!).
To fully
appreciate the views we started with a few cocktails in the bar. However, these are not just any cocktails,
there are quirky elements to everything.
Take your traditional Cosmopolitan for example, a good drink to start
off a girlie late lunch...this one was ‘roasted’ and included bone marrow!
We all opted for
different drinks, with the only rule being you couldn’t pick the same as
someone else. My ‘Dark & Stormy’ rum
and ginger beer combo even arrived in a brown paper bag!
To accompany our
drinks we went for a bar snack...pigs ears!!
We then headed
in for our meal with the mouth-watering menu providing yet more eccentric
delights! The name-sake dish of ‘Duck
& Waffle’ was literally a tasty waffle with a succulent duck leg on top,
accompanied by a fried duck egg and maple syrup with mustard seeds.
By this point I’d
decided on my favourite cocktail – a Marmite Black Velvet (actually a Marmite
and Guinness reduction with Champagne) which went perfectly with our ‘brunch
style’ food.
The apparently
random, but incredibly delicious, combinations continued as we piled our table
high with a feast of different dishes.
Including the ‘spicy ox cheek doughnut with apricot jam’, finishing with
a final treat of petit fours for dessert.
Overall a fantastic
place with excellent food and a great atmosphere – I definitely recommend
popping in for a visit you won’t forget!
